Joint pains occur in two forms, acute and chronic joint pains. Acute being a milder form doesn’t last for too long, no longer than eight weeks but chronic joint pains are more painful and could last for a lifetime. Using joint pain medication helps to quickly put an end to acute joint pain but when it comes to chronic joint pain it’s a different thing entirely. Most Joint pain medication only helps you to live with your chronic joint pains, especially those that result from arthritis and not totally eliminate it.

The cause of your joint pain and how serious it is [ acute or chronic] determine what kind of joint pain medication you will use for treating it. If it is brought on by injuries you will need to take joint pain medication that works for that and you can even go for surgery to treat it. But if it is brought on by arthritis, it’s a totally different ball game. It is not that there are no pain medications for arthritic joint pains, it’s just that Science has not really come up with a total and complete solution.

Be that as it may, there are still some effective pain medication available that can help you alleviate your joint pains. The use of prescribed drugs like an acetaminophen is very common in dealing with this pain. Steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may also be prescribed by your doctor if you have inflamed joints. NSAID, embrocations, and analgesia are common conventional joint pain medications that could also be used to deal with your joint pains. But make sure you get your prescriptions from your doctor.

If the side effects that comes with most conventional joint pain medication is something you can’t handle or just want to avoid, there are other avenues to explore in seeking relief from your joint pains if traditional drugs are not doing it for you. Alternative therapy and the use of supplements have become very popular in helping to alleviate joint pains with little or no side effects.
